Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management(CPWM) is a ballot committee composed of conservation organizations from across Michigan who believe that fish and wildlife decisions should be based on sound science.
Amidst an unprecedented attack on hunting rights in Michigan by the largest anti-hunting organization in the country – the Humane Society of the United States – and their front group Keep Michigan Wolves Protected, CPWM has launched a citizen initiative to enact a law that would protect hunting, fishing and trapping rights in Michigan by making sure that decisions affecting fish and game are made using sound science.
The citizen initiative, called the Scientific Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act, protects the authority of the bipartisan Natural Resources Commission to designate game species (which it shares with the Legislature) and to issue fisheries orders, both under a duty to use sound science, to provide free licenses for active military members, and to protect Michigan waters from invasive species like Asian carp with a $1 million appropriation to the Department of Natural Resources for rapid response activities.
Michigan is ground zero in the battle between anti-hunters who want to force their radical views on the people of Michigan through misleading multi-million dollar ad campaigns, and between conservationists who believe that fish and wildlife should be managed with sound science, not sound bites. Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management, through the Scientific Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act, is standing up to out-of-state anti-hunters to protect Michigan’s outdoor heritage. Thank you too all of those who have stepped up in the fight!
